July 4th at the Lakes

Thanks to Melissa, Amy and Sandy facebooking our entire vacation... I think we captured most of our festive July 4th week at the lake!  Kris thought a nice ride to MN would be great in the summer using our new mode of transportation; which just so happens to have a DVD player :)  We did watch a few movies, but most of our time was spent in this position.  Man, kids are resilient - they really can sleep anywhere!
The reason for our trip?  Yes, it was for Amy to hang with her family, but if you ask the kids ... the real reason was for these little munchkins to love on each other all week long.
Since we were so early in July, fishing was still pretty amazing.  We all lucked out with catching some fun fish, but Kris never did get the memo that we weren't fishing for bass.  He pulled in quite a few ... just the wrong fish :)
Melissa and Amy also enjoyed quite a few paddle board adventures during the week.  Amy was training for a triathlon... no rest for the weary ~ even on vacation!
We were thrilled when mom offered to watch our little ones so we could hit up a few holes at Lida Greens.
Skiing was a big part of the trip for us.  Brooklyn learned how to ski on her 'big kid' skis and Kasey rocked the Ski Trainer Platform for the first time!  Was fun to watch everyone.  Brooklyn made me giggle as she finished up and said her legs and back felt 'wobbly'.  Yup, that is true skiing.  This was the first time she was holding part of the tension herself.  The trainer board protected her for the past few years.  Kasey was a bit apprehensive about the ski board, but eventually geared up and rocked it out of the gate.  In fact, at one point he was waving and giving thumbs up to nearby canoes and paddle boarders.  He was a pure ham!
Don't make this crew mad... they are armed and ready for a fight!  We also had a diving competition. Thank goodness we had such great judges on the beach!  It was a tough call on who won, but I would say based on the pics; they all had great form!
No trip is complete without a Zorbaz break for their amazing pizza!
It wasn't all fun and games.  There was work to be done too.  Putting together tables and cooking meals in order to get ready for the big fourth of July!
The fourth started out with the "First Annual Star Lake 4th of July 5K" with this tough crew.  We all had a blast keeping up with each other and were all very happy with our times.  Can't wait for next year... I'm coming after you, Erica!
After that hard work, it is time to feast.  I would say our feast was pretty amazing and think Karsten would agree.  Although, his mouth was too full to add any further comments.
We had such a Fun and Festive Fourth of July at the MN lakes. It was too windy for fireworks, but there was a fun corn hole tournament that Amy and Kris participated in.  On a totally unrelated note... Melissa, your next door neighbors are cheaters (ha).  We also had an awesome and sunny day to enjoy at the lakes and of course had sparklers, party poppers and some other cool fireworks (all located on our picture cd that is missing - sigh).  We do have a couple of lovely crews to show off though.  The day was just perfect!  So glad to be with family :)
