Genealogy: Ancestors Remembered

Kris and I decided to work into one of George and Pat's adventures and join them in Salt Lake City, Utah for a fun weekend away.  So, we left beautiful Colorado and headed to Sunny Utah.  Not before we took a quick pic at DIA to commemorate the start of our trip!
The first stop of the night?  Dinner of course!  At, where else?  In-N-Out!!! These kids sure loved their burgers and shakes!  Amy and Kris were pretty happy too! For only being in Utah for a quick weekend... I will tell you this was not our only stop at our favorite burger joint (diet started Monday!)
No trip is complete without a little sight seeing.  We learned a lot about the Mormon temple and the Mormon religion.  It was quite wonderful seeing all the beauty that surrounded you in Temple Square.
George and Pat's current residence was just a hop and a skip away from the air force running track.  Karsten decided he was ready to take on his dad and grandpa.  I'm sure it was a close call, but based on this pic alone - I am guessing Karsten false started.
Kris' family has been researching their genealogy for years.  I have been blessed to be on some of those trips, where we are searching through dusty books in an old country church to find records of deaths and births (*and even finding the crazy side of the family; remember Elizabeth Cannode in the psych ward?).  Well, times are a changing!  This trip, we spent time in a computer filled room searching electronic documents!  It was a whole new level of searching.  Way different than those dusty churches.  Kris spent time searching the Cannodes while Amy had fun diving into the Mattson/Torgerson/Sullivan/Mulvaney side of her family.
Amy's favorite day was a trip to the famous Salt Lake. We got to see beautiful sites along the way.
We had our work cut out to get to the Great Salt Lake.  George will tell you that it used to be about a 1/2 a mile to get to the lake from the parking lot.. Not sure how far we walked, but I guarantee you it was Much farther than that in the hot sand!  Sure was worth it though.  So cool seeing the brine shrimp swimming all around and watching the kids enjoy finding out they instantly floated in this salty pool.  Was a great, fast trip had by all!  Can't wait for the next Cannode adventure!
