Carter's start to 2012

Not often do we give Carter a full blog posting.  Usually, it relates to him getting a noise infraction from the Parker Police.  In this case... we WISH it was a noise infraction.

On January 1st, Kris and Amy were excited that Gma and Gpa Cannode offered to watch the boys while we went to the last regular season Broncos game of the year (Broncos vs Chiefs).  We packed our lunch, our tailgate cooler and peanuts and were on our way to the game.  After arriving in our seats, we watched the Broncos warm up for the game.  Four minutes before kickoff... we got the call.  Something was wrong with Carter.  Carter was outside when George realized Carter could not get up on the deck.  He thought his leg might be broken... we WISH it was a broken leg.

After getting Carter to the emergency vet, the vet determined it was an FCE (Fibrocartilaginous Embolism).  This was described like a stroke to the brain, but instead it affected his nervous system and spine.  As a result, he lost full mobility of his left hind leg.  Essentially, Carter had no idea his back leg was attached.  He would just drag his hind leg around with no direct control over his leg.  We were told to immobilize him and let the leg repair for a couple of weeks.  As a result, Kris has been carrying him in and outside to go to the bathroom and carrying Carter up and down the stairs so he can sleep in our room.  (On the positive side, Kris' muscles are getting a nice workout).  The kids have been great about helping with Carter.  They bring him his water dish, food dish and bone to chew on and pat Carter on the head saying in the saddest toddler voice, "Carter, boo boo".
Not the best pic, but you can see Carter has no control over
his back left leg. It just drags behind him.

Due to his injury, we were told to immobilize him as much as possible
Poor Carter...

When Carter did get out - the kids thought it was fun to go
into his home.

Kris is taking Carter out to go to the bathroom.
Notice the tags on his new coat.
Guess he has been too preoccupied to take them off!
Carter had a follow up appointment with our vet this past friday.  The Vet was Incredibley Happy with his progress! Carter now was trying to place his foot (not doing well, but trying).  He also had pretty good reflexes.  He has continued to improve and we think he will gain most, if not all, his mobility back!  Keep him in your thoughts as we pray for a quick recovery!!!
